Holiday reading

Whoop! The holidays are here!

Well done everyone in Year 1 on a great learning filled term.

We hope you're all enjoying an action packed break but when you do get a chance to sit back and relax what will you be reading?

Miss Davis has been enjoying having the whole reading corner to herself to do a spot of reading!

Has anyone been reading in ridiculous places?

Fly Me To The Moon

Wow! What a trip.

We all loved returning to the Science Museum to visit their Imax cinema which is one of the largest 3D cinemas in Europe. It was great to watch Fly Me To The Moon.

In the film the story of Apollo 11 and the first moon landing was told by three house flies; Nat, IQ and Scooter. With Nat tagging along with Neil Armstrong on his legendary moon walk. Although the flies face close calls, the mission to the moon is a success with the brave trio of flies hailed as heroes when they return to Earth.

What was your favourite bit in the film?
What did you learn about the Apollo 11 mission from the film?

P.S. We are definitely underground experts now with all of Year 1 confident navigating the Victoria, Circle and District tube lines to South Kensington. We were superstars in the large crowds at Victoria and we always remembered to stand on the right in single file on the escalators!

Aliens

We've been designing and then writing descriptions of our own aliens in Year 1 this week.
Do you like them?
What do you think the aliens might say if they could talk?
Bob the Man on the Moon does not think aliens exist.
What do you think?

Super Science

We have had a science filled fortnight doing lots of exciting experiments. We all had a chance to look through lots of non-fiction science books. We chose our favourite experiments from the books. Then we worked in teams to carry out our exciting experiment. We then modified and repeated our experiments.

What did you enjoy learning about in science this fortnight?

Beech Class

We have been tweeting a lot to Beech class who are a Year 1 class in a school in Cornwall. We have been sharing our learning on space with them through twitter. They all wrote questions that they wanted to ask us about space and tweeted them to us. Today we wrote our replies to their questions and tweeted them back.

They even had a class vote in response to our tweet about
whether they'd rather visit the moon or London!

Where would you prefer to visit; the moon or London?
What would you like to ask Beech Class about their
 learning and lives in Cornwall?
