Half term reading

It's almost half term so we have been re-organising our reading corners. We swapped books between classrooms and chose our  special books to read at the end of the day for next half term.

We even found out that we have lots of books by the same authors.

What books will you be reading over the holidays?

Thinking about our learning

Now it is almost half term we have been reflecting and evaluating our learning during our Green Fingers topic. There have certainly been lots of exciting bits! I think my favourite thing was when we saw all the trees in Brockwell park and ate our lunch in a circle in the dappled sunlight; very special.

This is one child's likes and dislikes.

What have you liked learning about this half term?

The best bits

The best bits of our trip to Kew Gardens
Written by three Year 1 children

"The best bit of the trip was when we went to the tree top walkway. High up. Because I thought I would fall and when we reached the top I saw very lovely trees. The trees had leaves on it. The best tree I liked was the beech tree because you can eat it. But not alot. It tastes like lettuce. It taste like one normal leaf."

"Yesterday when we went on the trip it was fun because when we went in the playground bit I liked it. We got to go down the slide. I liked when we had our lunch in the wigwam and I liked when we was walking. We was looking around the trees. When I went on the tree top I got freaked out. The floor was see through! I didn't like when it was down. I didn't like to look down."

"I liked about how we climbed up that high place. And how we was up to the trees. I feeled like I was stretching that high. I saw some birds flying in the tree. I also liked about the part, let me think, when we went inside that play place because it was fun. I saw some geese at the gardens. And some ducks. I also liked when we looked at that statue because it looked kind of famous. Because it from another famous artist."

Kew Gardens

What an inspiring and engaging place! We loved all the different trees at Kew Gardens. The Rhizotron and Xstrata walkway was a particular highlight as we felt like monkeys high up in the canopy. The views of the arboretum and gardens below were spectacular!

What tree is this?

We have been doing lots of learning about trees this week.

We investigated the trees that grow in our playground examining their leaves, bark and size.

What do you know about our playground trees?
