Shapes everywhere!

What a lot of learning on shapes we have been doing in Year 1. We have been spotting shapes around the school and in the Ritzy. We have been singing lots of shape songs in class.

What a busy day

Today in Year One we were working hard on so many things. Everyone came to school with a fantastic learning attitude and we had a brilliant day.

This morning we were working towards our Maths targets, many of us were doing this independently and some of us were working with a grown up.

We finished our incredible dream lands.

Two Year 1 children said;

"This is our dream land, we have got the Ritzy because we want to watch movies, a swimming pool and a long park going to our big house where we can have a party."

                                                                                                                                             

This afternoon we looked carefully at the Ritzy and tried to spot as many different 2D shapes as possible. Everyone worked very hard to find, name and talk about the shapes that they had found.

We have been spotting shapes in lots of different pictures of the Ritzy in class.

We recycled our boxes from our fantastic new outdoor equipment.

 Together we worked to create our own spectacular versions of the Ritzy.

        We looked carefully at the building and talked lots about what we wanted ours to look like.

Year 6 Reporters



Some intrepid reporters from Year 6 ventured down to year 1 last week. They questioned us about our learning on the Ritzy and recorded our insightful answers on their ipad. Look out for their article on us coming soon!

Writing about our Dream Lands

Wow! Year 1 have been doing some very impressive descriptive writing about their dream lands.

Michael Rosen was so impressed he tweeted ;

" Lovely stuff... 'dream land' ? It's where I spend several hours a day too. Maybe next time I'll see Year 1 Hill Mead there too."

Mapping our world

Year 1 have been creating maps of our route from school to the Ritzy cinema. We included lots of detail on our maps of what we saw on our walk.

We have also designed our own dream worlds 

and made maps for them.

My dream world would have lakes filled with chocolate and lots and lots of parks. What would your dream world have in it?

We love reading!

Year 1 have been doing lots of reading for fun in their new class reading corners. We all drew the front covers of our favourite books.

Welcome to the Year 1 blog!

We are all really excited to have our Year group blog up and running. All the Year 1 team (Miss Davis, Miss Wooldridge, Miss Powell, Miss Douglas, Miss Hunt and Miss Binnie) are really looking forward to reading your comments and sharing all our ideas and work online.

We have had a fabulous first few days in Year 1 and have settled into our new classrooms. Just a quick reminder that PE for Year 1 is on Mondays so remember to bring your kit in your new Hill Mead rucksack.
